On-court classics inspire a return to style
The Flight 9.5 ($119.99) is a court-inspired mid-top that features some minor updates to the silhouette of the Flight 9 on which it's based. The Flight 9.5 consists of genuine leather and lightweight synthetic materials, designed for durability and support. Gone is the colored band of foxing that traced around the midsole, freeing up more visibility of the molded upper. Perforations on the toe box lend some ventilation, and a visible Air-Sole unit in the heel adds Nike signature cushioning. Check out one of its newest colorways, Sport Blue/White/Black/Infrared 23.
Jordan's True Flight ($139.99) debuted in 2009, but its 2014 release clearly derives inspiration from the Air Jordan VII of 1991. This edition puts the iconic Jumpman logo on display within a panel on the Huarache-style ankle collar. It also retained the midsole extensions on the outer side, designed for lateral support for the original court shoe. The midsole retained the heart of the original, an Air-Sole unit for cushioning. It's available now in a new Black/White/Black/Cool Grey colorway, and others.
Like the Flight 9.5, Jordan's Flight 14.5 ($129.99) reflects a slight update to an original. While the Flight 14.5 carries over some of the Ferrari-inspired silhouette of the Air Jordan XIV of 1998, the 14.5 incorporates some updates. It features Lunarlon dual-density lightweight foam cushioning in the heel, and the Flight Web fit system that lends ventilation while incorporating the laces into a secure lockdown to the footbed. It's available now in a White/Black/Metallic Silver colorway, and more.
The AJ 1 Mid ($104.99) draws its inspiration from the original Air Jordan of 1985. Updates include a rubber cupsole for stability in the heel, where an Air-Sole unit lends cushioning. Throwback features include both the iconic Swoosh logo on the midfoot and the original Air Jordan "Wings", logo on the ankle collar. The AJ 1 Mid also color-keys the Jumpman logo on the tongue to that Wings logo. Some colorways also hook it to the all-rubber outsole, or to the midfoot portion of the upper for a unique look. The latest colorways include Wolf Grey/Sport Blue/White, Sport Blue/Infrared 23/Black/White, and Gym Red/Black/White coming in September.
The Flight 97 ($129.99) also combines elements of popular Jordan silhouettes, most notably the mesh midfoot panel similar to the Air Jordan IV and V. The midsole resembles the low, undulating lines of the AJ V. But most visibly, the Flight 97 includes a removable midfoot strap that can either lash down your foot, or hang loose; however it best fits your style. It also includes a molded textile ankle collar and Air-Sole unit under the heel designed for comfort, and a pull tab on the heel for easy on/off.
