Podulon Returns to CP3 Line

Nike’s proprietary Podulon cushioning technology returned to the Chris Paul signature line, where it debuted in the CP3.III model in 2009.

Designed to accentuate the five-time All-Star point guard’s lightning-quick playing style, Podulon was an evolutionary step from the Independent Podular Suspension system that was an innovation on the Air Jordan XX released in 2005.

Podulon consisted of the engineered shape of Cushlon foam placed strategically under the forefoot areas that received high impact. This lent cushioning where needed while maintaining the integrity of the shoe. Cushlon had a long lifespan, so Podulon was designed to sustain comfort and responsiveness.

Outsole notes key dates in Paul's life

Under the heel of the right shoe were dots referring to the May 23, 2009, birth date of Paul’s son, Christopher Emmanuel Paul II. The young Paul has the “II” suffix because, according to Paul’s interview with Bobbito Garcia on ESPN’s “It’s the Shoes,” his “CP3” nickname came from being the third in line after his father, Charles Paul (“CP1”), and older brother, CJ Paul (“CP2”).

Dots under the left heel denoted his wedding date of Sept. 10, 2011, and triangles honored Paul’s grandfather, Nathaniel Jones, with whom Paul was very close and who died tragically the day after Paul signed his letter of intent to play basketball at Wake Forest University
