LESS WASTE
The knitted construction process minimizes weight and waste by using only what's needed. The upper is made entirely of polyester yarn that's fed into a proprietary knitting machine, creating little to no waste so the shoe is incredibly efficient to produce.

FLYKNIT ORIGINS
Nike Flyknit technology was inspired by feedback from runners craving a shoe with the snug (and virtually unnoticed) fit of a sock. Nike embarked on a four-year mission with teams of programmers, engineers and designers to create the technology needed to make the knit upper with static properties for structure and durability. Then the precise placement of support, flexibility and breathability - all in one layer - was refined. The result is a featherweight, form-fitting and virtually seamless upper.

It has been called innovative, revolutionary, and one of the best inventions of the year. Nike Flyknit was inspired by feedback from runners saying they wished shoes could be more like a sock, snug fitting and so light that it can go unnoticed to the wearer. Unfortunately the qualities that make socks so comfortable also make them a poor choice for a shoe upper. Socks have no structure or durability and they can’t provide the support runners need.

Nike began what would become a 4-year mission to create the ultimate running shoe. It required teams of designers, programmers, and engineers to discover the technology necessary to create a knit upper. The result was an all-new precision engineering process to create lightweight form-fitting Flyknit.

Using variations of yarn and material Nike has revolutionized the minimalist shoe trend. Coming soon to Foot Locker, the Flyknit Lunar 1+ running shoe upper will incorporate Nike Flywire technology to make the shoe mold better to the runner’s foot acting like another layer of skin or a form fitting sock. The Flyknit Lunar 1+ will be available February 2013.
