New York, N.Y., September 4, 2009- Foot Locker announced today, that this year’s Foot Locker Cross Country Championships Northeast Regional Race will move to Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, Long Island, to be held on Saturday, November 28.

The Northeast Regional Race has been held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York, for the 30-year history of the event. More than 65 acres of Van Cortlandt Park, including portions of the cross-country trail are currently being renovated.

“We are very excited to move our race to Sunken Meadow State Park overlooking the Long Island Sound,” said Jeanine Zocks, vice president of sports marketing. “The 5K course features “Cardiac Hill,” sunken meadow creek, and is widely regarded as one of the most difficult cross-country courses in the country.   Five Working Mothers, One From Each New York City Borough, Join Together for the 2008 Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge at the ING New York City Marathon

New York - "What does it take?" That’s the theme of this year’s ING New York City Marathon, and the members of this year’s Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge can certainly answer the question. For the ninth consecutive year, Foot Locker is proud to unite five total strangers, one from each of the five boroughs, who share a common passion for the sport of running. The theme this year is “Working Mothers.” These five inspiring women do it all… they have careers, they raise children and they make time to train for marathons- namely before the sun even rises.

Foot Locker and New York Road Runners selected five runners for this unique “race within a race,” in which each runner represents their New York City borough. The team of runners must run together for the first 13-miles of the marathon, and then they can breakaway for the remainder of the race. The runner in the group who finishes the marathon in the fastest time will become the Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge Champion, winning a Tiffany trophy and citywide bragging rights.

“Foot Locker is proud to highlight these five women, who show true determination and perseverance. We are also pleased to generate additional excitement for the ING New York City Marathon by showcasing local runners,” said Keith Daly, president and ceo, Foot Locker, U.S.A. “We applaud the dedication and commitment of all the runners training for the marathon, especially for training together as a team representing their boroughs.”

The Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge competitors are: Brooklyn- Danielle Hansen – mother of three and physical therapist Queens- Susan Moore – mother of two and teacher Staten Island- Kelley Santamaria – mother of three and home day care provider Bronx- Barbara Thompson – mother of one and graduate student Manhattan- Lisa Stone – mother of two and vice president in wealth management

Each of the runners, diverse as the borough they are representing, will average an 8-minute mile. In the weeks leading up to the marathon, the competitors will meet to train, lend support, and trade running tips. The entire team will be featured on WNBC-TV during the live, five-hour television broadcast of the ING New York City Marathon. Foot Locker has been the title sponsor of the Five Borough Challenge for the past eight years. The Bronx borough is the reigning champion.
