A History of Comfort

Since lightweight full-zip jackets began appearing on track-and-field athletes and on soccer fields in the 1960s, they’ve made a certain statement. At the time, they were usually part of a complete outfit that included similarly styled pants. It all said that you were ready to perform and that you were serious about coming out on top. These days, track jackets and pants are a little more chill about that message. It’s more about a lightweight layer against cool temperatures and a roomy fit. 

As with the originals, current designs feature elastic cuffs for a snug fit at your wrists, easily accessible pockets at the waist, and a thin textile lining to add a little warmth to your shell. And while these track styles can still give you all the warm-up you might want, it’s just as comfortable to kickback.

Styles for Miles 

The Nike JDI Tape jacket revives the “Just Do It” slogan that’s been famous since 1988. The words run down taping on each sleeve, adding a strip of contrast to its allover color, while ribbing at the cuffs keeps everything where you want it.  Women’s and girls’ sizes give the Nike Sportswear Swoosh Woven and Heritage full-zip jackets a fresh appeal. The Swoosh Woven features a cropped hemline that falls just above your waist. A color-contrast Swoosh stands alone at the left chest while going big and bold across the back. The Heritage pulls a fun, energetic design from the archives with vertically oriented colorblocking that includes a color-keyed zip-up.

adidas Originals recalls some of the first of these types of jackets. The adidas Originals Firebird track jacket features an allover color with contrasting Three-Stripes running down each sleeve and the iconic Trefoil logo on the left chest. The ribbed cuffs and hemline keep the jacket in place but allow it to move naturally with you. Like the Firebird style, the adidas Originals 3D Trefoil track jacket also features a full-zip front that keeps blustery winds off your neck with a high-rise collar. The Three-Stripes badging down each sleeve is interrupted on the left by a colorful Trefoil logo.
