It’s no secret that Nike has a history of collaborating with some of basketball’s greatest stars. In fact, Kyrie Irving was the fourth player in the history of the brand to create his own signature shoes, inking a deal with Nike when he was just 22.
From One to Six
Released in 2014 when Kyrie was league MVP, the first shoe in the line was the Kyrie 1, which featured responsive cushioning thanks to Nike Zoom Air technology in the forefoot. The kicks had an impressive grip with the 360-degree traction pattern in the sole and offered the ultimate in support from the Hyperfuse construction.
Up next was the Kyrie 2 in 2015, which added a curved midsole and outsole to the mix to increase lateral movement. It also included a dynamic traction pattern paired with a midfoot strap and Zoom Air cushioning.
Not to be outdone, the Kyrie 3 in 2016 offered several new features, including traction pods in the forefoot and Flywire cables to help reduce internal foot slide. The Kyrie 4 was even more impressive, with elements from newbie designer Benjamin Nethongkome, including a Flex Groove outsole, Cushlon midsole, and heel Zoom Air unit.
Nike and Kyrie took a different approach with the Kyrie Low in 2018, one of the only shoes in the line to feature a low-cut upper. That same year we saw the release of the Nike Kyrie 5, a Venus-flytrap-inspired design that kept feet secure and supported during intense moments of action.
2019 was a big year for the brand, with both the Nike Kyrie Low 2 and the Nike Kyrie 6. The former offers both heel and forefoot Zoom Air units, while the latter combines Air Zoom Turbo with Traction 360 for a comfortable grip on the court.
