At its origins, the Blazer was a Nike basketball shoe with its untouched herringbone pattern underfoot meant to grip the hardwood, and it earned its name from the Portland Trailblazers. The sneaker saw huge success on the court in short amount of time after being laced up on some of the league’s greats back in the ’70s, but Nike began to launch newer and more advanced sneakers that eventually took its place.
The gear may have changed, but the Nike Blazer found a second breath with an entirely new sport: skateboarding. It’s grippy, flat herringbone pattern underneath the shoe provided skaters with exceptional grip, and before long, the Blazer had an entirely new following. Nike later rolled out its skateboarding line, and the Nike Blazer, of course, is still in the mix.
The Nike Blazer now has sizing for kids, with kids’ Nike clothing and other kids’ Nike products to choose from to match the drip. With such a simple, classic silhouette, Nike Blazer Shoes are worn by many for everyday wear, earning itself a spot in streetwear culture as it stands today.
