Freedom in Every Step

Nike rolled out the Free series in 2005 after company reps visited a college coach and witnessed his runners training barefoot.

Barefoot running was seen as a return to evolutionary roots where running would have us on the balls of our feet, landing and using our foot biology to absorb shock and propel ourselves forward. Modern running shoes enabled competitive runners to take longer strides, landing on the heel and rolling all the way through to toe-off.

The Nike Free combines barefoot running with modern technology by featuring lightly-knit mesh uppers designed to flex with your foot no matter how you run, walk, or move.

Stepping into the Future

The running part of that movement has dissipated somewhat in recent years, but the pure spirit of comfort is still going strong, with the Nike Free RN Flyknit 3.0 and Free RN 5.0 representing the line today. Both shoes feature an articulated foam midsole with deep flex grooves to help it bend naturally with your foot.

The 3.0 features just a 4mm offset from heel (17mm high) to forefoot (13mm), about as close to “barefoot” as you’ll find in a shoe. The 5.0 features a 6mm offset — 20mm in the heel, 14mm in the forefoot — for a similar close-to-nature feel.

Nike Free’s design also resembles the racing flats made popular by high-performance sprinters, giving you a mix of race-day looks with the comfort of kick-back casual.

Finish Strong

Whether you’re running miles in your men’s Nike Free or just running errands, you can complete your look with a variety of Nike running and athleticwear including men's T-shirts, shorts, joggers, and more.

Woven shorts feature a lightweight polyester blend, while Nike Alumni shorts offer a cotton blend.

Nike Club joggers provide full-length coverage for any season, or to layer up with shorts underneath.

Nike Air T-shirts give you layering options, and classic Windrunner jackets are just the layer for that, providing a light option and a shell against the elements.
