MJ didn’t just hit the hardwood in 1984-85, he exploded upward from it and seemed to hang forever in the air. His moves on the court were the stuff of dreams. And if his style of play wasn’t head-turning enough, his first signature shoe was. It was just his second season in pro ball when he began dominating the court with a flair set off by the stark black/red colorway.
While that first shoe, the Air Jordan, would feature MJ’s own Wings logo, later editions of the Air Jordan series would feature one that lives on today as a singular mark of greatness, the Jumpman. Produced during a photoshoot for his signature Air Jordan shoes and apparel, the silhouette of a man appearing to glide effortlessly toward a hoop with an arm extending the ball high above carried our aspirations to new heights.
Air Apparel
Though MJ retired in 2003, he’s never really gone away from the game. It’s easy for kids to connect with the hall-of-famer’s legacy today.
Girls can get their own unique flavor of Jordan that fits their style, with colors that range from smooth pastels to striking and bold hues. The Fadeaway T-shirt, for example, is aptly named. An oversized Jumpman logo wraps around the front with colors that fade from a bold pink at the bottom to a soft aqua at the top along with an “Air Jordan” wordmark. A girl can even set up her own head-to-toe look with the Galentine’s Day T-shirt and girls’ leggings.
Shoes to Kick it Off
As any sneakerhead knows, a great Jordan look is built from the ground up. The Jordan AJ 1 Mid recalls the original that started it all, the only Air Jordan to feature a prominent Swoosh logo. The Retro 11 Low is the wear-anywhere version of the most popular Jordan ever produced.
