Off the Wall
Since 1966, Vans has been “off the wall,” inspiring generations of kids, teens, and adults to live free and wild. The company began in Anaheim, California, as the passion project of brothers Paul Van Doren and Jim Van Doren (alongside partners Serge Delia and Gordon Lee). That first day, a total of 12 people came in to buy shoes, which were all handcrafted on demand.
Naturally, the company has expanded significantly since then, breaking into the skateboard shoe avenue in the early ’70s. Skaters like Stacy Peralta and Tony Alva became the first to sport the Vans #95 (today known as the Vans Era), helping the brand to gain national recognition. Further releases during that time included the Vans Old Skool, Vans Classic Slip-Ons, and Sk8-Hi, all of which are still popular today.
