It’s Game 5. Six seconds left. Cleveland is up by one point. And then – Michael Jordan makes the shot that will later be known as The Shot, leading Chicago to victory. And on his feet? The fourth addition to his signature line of sneakers: The Air Jordan 4.
Designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield and released in
1989, it was the first to feature mesh overlays, adding functional
breathability and unique, textured style. The design included a geometric tech
strap and a prominent Nike Air logo at the heel, making it a standout on the
court.
Global Appeal
Jordan’s AJ 4 was the first silhouette to see a global
release, signaling his rising notoriety outside of the United States. The
sneaker was also featured in Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing,” solidifying the
crossover power of the Jordan brand into popular culture and street fashion. (Lee
had also been featured in a commercial for the Air Jordan 3 the year prior).
Relive Every Moment
The Jordan Retro 4 commemorates the original and features minimal
modern updates for enhanced comfort. The design easily lends itself to vibrant
colorways, so check out a variety of colors, materials, and patterns at Foot
