Beginnings in Sport
The iconic Three-Stripes pants are a wardrobe staple for dressing comfy, but these popular sweatpants got their start somewhere else – on the soccer field. In 1967 adidas did a collab with German soccer phenom, Franz Beckenbauer, which marked the beginning of adidas’ highly successful apparel line, and of course, the debut of these classic pants. Beckenbauer’s track pants weren’t just the first Three-Stripe pants to hit the market, they were also built with function in mind. The tapered leg prevented the pant from dragging during play, and the zipper at the pant opening allowed soccer players to easily take them off when needed.
